 USM Emergency Code Gamma
----------

Due to some recent mission failures and disasters in the last 10 years, including the Xidia Incident, it has been USM's current policy to issue Emergency Code Gamma survival data to soldiers in the field. Emergency Code Gamma occurs when the mission has been ambushed or derailed in such a way that soldiers get left in an restricted battle zone for an extended period of time away from reinforcements. Because many areas of space are unprotected by United Space Division law, USM cannot always respond to an immediate problem with reinforcements right away until it has been cleared by Section, the head back at Home Base.

This case was most directly brought to notice during the Xidia Incident, where an undetected enemy presence ambushed a drop ship party, and as a result, the team suffered heavy causalities and were left to fend for themselves against enemy forces while USM could not respond to their distress. Because of this delay, only one soldier survived that drop ship team, making a nearly total loss of an entire squad.

Since Na Pali classifies as an unprotected zone, if Emergency Code Gamma goes into effect, which is extremely unlikely due to the small level of Skaarj forces occupying the ISV-Kran, you would therefore be on your own for an unprotected period of time of about 36 hours.

The data you are about to see has been collected from numerous accounts of the inhabitants, both alien and native, sentient and wildlife, of the planet called Na Pali. This information has been transferred to your display receiver and USM does not require you to read the following information, unless of course on the rare occurrence that Emergency Code Gamma goes into effect, then the information provided will give you an analysis of the environments outside of the ISV-Kran and what you might expect.

----------
1. Terrain
2. Native population
3. Alien elements
---------

1. Terrain

Na Pali is primarily mountainous, with numerous canyons and hills making up almost all the surface you would encounter if you happen to find yourself lost outside the Kran. Oceans exist on the planet, but they are far from your position and it would be impossible to reach them in 36 hours on foot There are plenty of plants available, our data insists that Na Pali plant life is mostly filled with nutrients, especially the fruit. If your rations run out you can survive on these.
Moving around requires a lot of hiking, which is fine considering you are wearing USM field boots. Ponds and lakes are common, so water is present if you manage to find them, usually in close proximity to grasslands.

2. Native Population

Na Pali has a combination of friendly, hostile, and neutral sentient and non-sentient life on the planet. Each class listed will be marked.

-: Nal i:-

Intelligence: Sentient
Attitude: Friendly

The Nali are the only native sentient race on Na Pali that we know of. What we know from past encounters on the planet, the Nali are very friendly and generous to humans, which they believe are "saviors from the sky". They are a primitive race in technological standards. They are deeply religious and are master farmers and gatherers. They have erected hundreds of temples over the surface, one no more than a quarter of a mile from the Kran.
If you encounter a Nali or a Nali Village, USM strongly insists that you not get too involved with them, our presence might disrupt their culture. The strong oppressive grip the Skaarj and other races have over the Nali is tight and we do not want to bring harm upon the Nali People by allowing them to aid us. You are not permitted to give them aid of any kind or give them any rations or USM issued tools. You may get medical treatment if needed from them, or food supplies.
In the event the Gamma code is issued, it best be recommended that you find one of these towns since the area would be the safest location for a dropship to land.
It is important to note that on USM's last mission on Na Pali, an aggressive Nali force was encountered. They were not hostile save for one who was killed by our operative in self-defense. Aside from the isolated single issue with the particular Nali, every other being of this race, including the warrior rebels that were encountered, have all been very friendly. At least as far as USM's records show.

-: Manta :-

Intelligence: Non-sentient
Attitude: Neutral, potentially Hostile

Mantas are bat-like reptiles that scavenge off land based organisms. They have no sentient intelligence, only primal instincts, and may attack you if they are threatened or if you wander into a nest. USM would rather you not get involved with these creatures and avoid them rather than attack. If you are forced to combat them, use small arms fire, since they are soft skinned and easily killed. Avoid swarms.
While mantas live in harsh environments that make the average lifespan quite low, there exists rare specimens that manage to live for long periods of time. Mantas tend to grow larger with age and very old mantas can live to be 3 times the size of the juvenile adults.

-: Razor Fly :-

Intelligence: Non-sentient
Attitude: Hostile

Large insectoid creatures that are highly aggressive and resemble Dragon Flies back home on Earth. They can be killed easily by small arms fire but bites can be quite painful and are prone to infection. Hives are huge but hidden in the inaccessible wall crevices of ruined buildings. You will be pestered by Razor Flies a mile before you ever reach one of their hives. Swarms can be very dangerous. They tend to in close proximity to Mantas since Mantas ingest certain nutrients that are broken down in the digestive system and Razor Flies are known for using the resulting excrement for food and for hive construction. As such, both creatures rarely bother each other and are usually in close proximity.

-: Tentacles :-

Intelligence: Non-sentient
Attitude: Hostile

You should be familiar with these pests, they grow on various rim systems, in damp, dark areas and feed off the decay of wall surfaces. They happen to exist on Na Pali in huge numbers for some reason. They aren't exactly dangerous, they are immobile and are only really dangerous up close, from away they shoot spore-propelled thorns at potential meals in efforts to stun them. The poison is non-effective to the human immune system, but they hurt An interesting fact is that most non-sentient organisms regard tentacles as if they were plants or some inanimate obstruction.

-: Titan :-

Intelligence: Non-sentient
Attitude: Hostile

These giants usually roam in more open canyon areas, but they tend to wander. USM insists that if encountered, you avoid these mammoths at all costs! They are huge beasts that resemble upright dinosaurs and have been known to engage anything they come across. They cannot be killed with the conventional weapons you posses, their hides are extremely thick and are as tough as concrete. Your chances of running into one if exposed on the surface are very rare. If confronted, try to flee if possible. They will pursue you relentlessly. They are known to hurl rocks, trees, and other objects if they feel like pelting you, so watch them. They move about sluggishly, but their nature makes them very aggressive.
They are loners, and will fight others of their species. Rumors persist from data gathered from unofficial reports that there are places on Na Pali where these beasts are imprisoned in a hibernation type state. The cause for this and the validity of the report is unknown.

-: Spinner :-

Intelligence: Non-sentient
Attitude: Hostile

Nicknamed by the UMS space marine team that discovered them on the planet. UMS shared their information with USM and we have detailed reports of these large arachnids. They are large insects, highly aggressive and territorial. They resemble a mix of arachnid and scorpion-like traits and secrete a powerful residue from their abdomens that they use to stun prey. At adult ages, they can be 3/4 the size of a man, and hives are controlled by a dominant female Queen which is rumored to be the size of an elephant.
The males are generally less dangerous than the paler, more aggressive egg-laying females. All females, including the Queen, will lay eggs. This makes the Spinner Population very large so whenever you encounter one...it is estimated that many are nearby.

3. Alien Elements

-: Skaarj :-

You already are aware of the Skaarj presence on Na Pali. The Skaarj were the first truly aggressive race to shipwreck themselves on Na Pali and in the hundreds of years since their arrival they have greatly populated their ranks and subjugated most of the globe. 12 years ago a prison ship called the Vortex Rikers crash-landed on Na Pali. UMS record show that a survivor from that vessel managed to make their way to the Skaarj mother ship, which had been switching locations on the surface of years after the Skaarj repaired the engines. The Mothership, with new technology engineered by the surviving Skaarj from pirated elements, had been reinvented to manipulate the gravitational tug of the Planet's Tarydium core and move across the atmosphere (which is rumored to cause severe electrical storms as a result and the effects of such phenomenon have had great effects on the planet that still exist today). Since the Mothership could not leave the atmosphere, it would settle in new regions every few months.
The prisoner in question stumbled upon the vessel in one of its landed positions and infiltrated the core hive. The encounter resulted in the death of the Skaarj Queen, the only source of procreation the Skaarj had on the planet. Even still, there was still large aggressive force of Skaarj occupying many strongholds on the surface. It wasn't until several years that the Skaarj feuds began.
The Skaarj Bloodpack is an elite sect that trains its warriors to hunt down an exterminate both Terran aggressors and the small groups of uprising Nali Peasants that roam the wilderness. Operation Nali Freedom placed a USM operative in a Sky Haven stronghold that was in the middle of a conflict with a very devoted group of Nali rebels. That conflict resulted in massive loses on the side of the Skaarj Bloodpack, along with 3 of their highest commanding Lords.
If USM Code Gamma goes into effect, the general area around the ISV Kran is considered caution zone. While the only location under Skaarj control for a radius of 50 miles is the ISV-Kran, other scouts from the Bloodpack may have fled the disabled vessel in effort to regroup elsewhere.

-: Alien Mercenaries :-

Intelligence: Sentient
Attitude: Aversion

Their race name is unknown, but these cybernetically enhanced humanoid mercenaries populate various locations on Na Pali. They are no strangers to the USM battle data logs, we've encountered them before. Outside Na Pali they are a clannish race, nomads who wander the coldest regions of space in their large TerraGen starships, seeking fortune by servicing their warriors to the highest bidder. Their technology is highly depended on Tarydium waste, a potential fuel source that is known to be extremely unstable if used improperly.
On Na Pali, a single TerraGen ship crashed several decades ago, presumably, and the race has since spread its survivors on several locations of the globe. Each group seems to work independently from the other, indicating that they no longer share clan attachments and may or may not consider you an enemy. Scanners show the derelict TerraGen ship about three miles from the ISV Kran, masked by a thick pollution signature. It has been determined that the ship has been abandoned and the contents of its waste facilities long since ruptured into the nearby environment. You should avoid this area, regardless of the possibility that this race continues to occupy the Ship. If you encounter these beings, do not approach and do not initiate contact Ignore them and they should ignore you. But bear in mind, they are territorial, and will consider you a threat if you wade to close to their strongholds.

Other beings to mention are Skaarj Bio-engineered drones called "Brutes" and a primitive species known as the "Krall" also working for the Skaarj. Both enemies are common to various parts of Na Pali but the Bloodpack has no record of operating Brutes to their outposts and the nearest Krall stronghold is way off the selected grid and would be highly unlikely to encounter them. If they ARE encountered for any reason, consider them hostile.
