Background:

History of the Ghost Dogs:

The 58th Marine Recon, Ghost Dogs Platoon is still fairly new to the UT arena,
compared to the dozens of other participating clans. However, its members are no strangers
to the ruthless art of war. The very events leading to the birth of the Ghost Dogs
was a trial by fire in itself that nearly ended MUCH differently than it did.

Several years ago, a squad of Marine covert ops specialists were sent deep inside the
territory of a hostile nation to rescue 15 U.S. diplomatic personnel and servicemen being
held hostage by terrorists. The terrorists had made their demands known and given them 4 days
to comply or hostages would be executed. After their insertion, the marine squad was to
recon the target, hole up for the night and upon being given the green light of approval,
execute the rescue and evac the next day. Recon of the target area revealed evidence that
certain known, high ranking officers of the hostile nation's military were involved.
Upon receiving this information, they were ordered to abort the mission, hole up and proceed
to the extraction point at the designated time, leaving the hostages behind. The young lieutenant
leading the squad was sharp enough to know exactly what this meant. This incident had yet
to leak out to the news agencies which meant that the government would probably keep it that
way. Their next move would be to sweep the incident under the rug, as not to further strain
relations between the two nations and instigate a potentially nasty incident. This meant that
the hostages would be written off as casualties of the diplomatic war. This was not acceptable
to the lieutenant. In an extreme act of defiance, the lieutenant and his squad decided to risk
everything and proceed with the mission as planned. The next day, right on schedule, they
executed their assault on the abandoned military base where the hostages were being held.
The attack was swift and brutal. They left no one alive to be witness to their illegal action.
The chopper pilots who met them at the designated extraction point were at a loss when the
squad showed up with all 15 hostages and threatened to leave without them, but the marine squad
had other ideas. No sooner had they landed aboard the carrier, the squad surrendered to the
military police that met them and were taken into custody. The grateful hostages were whisked away.

Because of their actions while in violation of official orders, every member of the covert ops squad
involved would be held responsible for breaking a whole list of international and
U.S. federal laws, among which was 28 counts of murder. Though the incident remained hidden
from the public eye, both countries knew or had a good idea of each other's involvement with
the whole incident. The other nation passed the terrorist action off as the work of a small
rouge faction within their military and claimed that all involved had been killed in the attack.
However, they demanded that those involved on the U.S. side of the incident be dealt with to the
fullest extent of the law. Not wanting to trigger a nasty public incident and possible war,
the U.S. Government had no choice but to comply. This meant that the eight members of the squad
were facing life in prison or death. However, before the court martial hearings could begin,
an un-named government agency intervened. Officially, they were tried, found guilty and sentenced
to death. In reality, the marine squad members were spirited away to a secret military base.
All records of their existence were collected and classified as "top secret". They no longer existed
to the world of the living. With new identities and known only by code names, these marines became
the first operatives of the covert, black ops platoon that would be known as the 58th Marine Recon Platoon
or the "Ghost Dogs". Their very existence is a highly rumored and disputed subject in many communities.

Presently, the Ghost Dogs have become part of an international cooperation between several
world national agencies. They operate whenever and wherever needed. But, when not performing
their primary function as field operatives, they participate in the Tournaments to keep their skill
sharp and are striving to establish a reputation there as well.

Terrorists around the world and UT opponents alike should beware the wrath of the Ghost Dogs.
They strike silently, never leave witnesses and vanish without a trace. When the air is quiet and all seems well,
your next breath could be your last. This is the way of the Ghost Dogs.

The map:

This map stages a small special op's US Marine's base in which the Ghost Dogs are stationed.
After many successful missions, hostile forces have launched an assault on the base and
the Ghost Dogs.

I hope you enjoy the map as much as we enjoyed making it. Look for it online on the {GD}1
server. My next endeavor will be an arctic mountaneous type map.
