WASHINGTON -- The National Parks Service today announced the
designation of more than 400 acres of existing parkland to be
declared a National Recreation Area, creating the country's first
Capture The Flag facility.
  Parks Services Chair Horace Forker stated in a press conference
today that, "our goal is to preserve our natural heritage for all
Americans. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty
and wildlife of this park with new services and amenities. We've
partnered with Marriott's Facilities Management division to ensure
an above-average experience for everyone, including full compliance
with the 1992 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Food services
and general maintenance will be handled within the surrounding
community, ensuring that the financial benefits from the facililty's
establishment will stay in the local economy."
  "We're thrilled about our new relationship with the National Parks
Service", said Bitsy Smodle, Deputy Facilities Manager for Marriott.
"Our committment to serving the public is foremost in our operations
and we look forward to working with our customers and the government
in this new and exciting venture."
   Park services include new flagbases, scenic walkways, and
explosive projectile armaments. Visitors will pay a fee of $6 for a
one-day pass, or $125 for a seasonal permit. Shuttle bus service is
available from the parking area into the park itself, and
preliminary attendance figures show that no fewer than fifteen
families and their camping equipment have been blown up so far.

Known bugs (nothing serious)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-- Although it doesn't happen often, players might sometimes get
"stuck" between a few of the rocks, or among the plants...this isn't
really viewed (at this end) as a bug, since these kinds of things do
occur in real life.
-- The sky shows white seams where the walls meet the ceiling, at
least on a Mac.
-- The ShieldBelt's walkway (toward the center of the map) is darker
than we'd like it...but adding more lights just makes it look
strange. Whatever.
-- Lighting might not be the greatest for some folks...but after
numerous crashes ("General Protection Fault") when reopening the map
after placing lights, caution dictated that we not screw around with
lighting any more than we had to. Besides, it's only our second map
and we're still learning.
-- We'd like the misslies to not explode when they hit the sky.
-- We need to learn more about "Zoning" and "Zone Lighting".
-- The map has been authored on a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and play-tested
on an iMac DVD SE. We can't really play-test on the Toshiba because
even Unreal's opening intro plays jerky on that unit. However, the
framerate seems to be about the same so we're keeping our fingers
crossed. Viewing the framerate on the iMac (via TILDE+STATS FPS)
tells us we're looking at a frame rate in the low-to-mid-twenties,
and a poly count (that's the "P" from the readout, isn't it?)
generally in the 100's. We've seen a lot worse.
