 DESCRIPTION:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Space-based missile station CTF arena. Fast-paced map good for
up to 16 (well, maybe even 20) players. Started off as my answer
to the very fun CTF-433, but of course turned out nothing like
that :P Enjoy!

 CREDITS:
--------------------------------------------------------------
1. Special thanks to "1HS - 1 Head Shot, 1 Howard Stern" for
creating the Ut2003 textures I used in this map -- all are
available from his l33t website -->
http://wharthog.ntelos.net/hosted_sites/howie/

NOTE: The textures found in FNBStarship.utx that have "_1hs"
stuck on the end are the UT2003 textures, etc..

2. Also included in teh FNBStarship.utx package are some
FNB orignal textures (haha, the ones that look like shit :P
Also included are modified versions of textures from DS9-TheFallen,
SystemShock2, StarTrek EliteForce2, and a few "Trek Panels"
graphics from some website I can't remember :o.

3. "NYCStreets_Music.umx" is a tune from the original DeusEx game.

4. SGTech1.utx -- well this comes with UT bonus pack #4 (which you
need to have installed)

5. Special thanks goes to UP-ers who checked out the beta (way way back)
and offered comments and suggestions (Cobra, Hortons_Who, Sobeit,
King Mango) and anyone else whom i've not mentioned :) you rock!

 Author's Notes
--------------------------------------------------------------
There's really 2 maps that inspired me enough to get this
Spacepods thing done - CTF-1HS-ORbital2 (Howard Stern) and
CTF-SiberiaN23 (kaMi) both quite different but both excellent
maps (one thing they both have in common is big fat UT2003
textures :P

The overall node/poly ratio in this map is a decent 2.23:1, which
took a lot of payne to achieve -- that's what you get for being
undiciplined to start with. Better to build proper brushes the first
time (duh!) This is the map i saw in my head, and i somehow made it
so. So that's a good thing i guess.

Most of the scenes in the map are under 400 polys and 800 nodes
but some spikes hit 900 nodes (looking up from the floor in the
middle will LAG you out if you have a P3, i think it bottomed at
12 fps) but on the p4 the counter dipped to around 25fps, hardly
a hiccup...

Game FrameRate averages for the map on my 1.8G-P4 GForce3-64 were
usually between 55-70 FPS in D3D at 1024x768. That's with all-up
UT settings and the GPU set to high performance (normal for gaming).

 Play Information
--------------------------------------------------------------
Game: Unreal Tournament
Level Name: CTF-FNB-Spacepods
Game Type: UTCTF - note lots of fun with RELICS (especially speed :)
Botmatch: Yes
Single Player: No
Teamplay: No
Difficulty Settings: Only For Bots
New Textures: Yup, lots
New Sounds: No
New Music: Some music from the game DeusEx
Mods: No
Mutators: No

Recommended # of Players: 8-16. I tested it with 20 and it worked ok,
but i think the overall FR was a bit lower on my 1.8G-P4. I only did
minimal testing on my 1G-P3, enough to know you lag if you look up
while running through the middle. Matches seem best with teams of 8.

Godlike bot match results vary between 6-0, and 6-5, depends on the
mood of the little buggers, i guess -- sometimes it's easy to cap,
other times it's damn near impossible !!! I think it's a fun map though
Hope y'all do too.
cheers

 Construction
--------------------------------------------------------------
Base: Original Map
Build Time: The original map took me around 20 hours to make in
March 2003, and included some imported brushes I'd made and used
in some earlier maps. CTF-FNB-Spacepods(BETA-1) was released at
UP during April 2003, and i implimented some changes suggested
in feedback... At the time, it looked like that map was too big
to go up on the server (12 megs), so i parked it for a while..

Since then, an attempt was made to rebuild it into a leaner
version "][", but that pain-in-the-ass failed due to HOMs and
various other problems, so I stuck to the original for this,
the final release version. Mind you, I redid most of the
lighting and texturing, and redid the pathing and weapons.
After optimizing, she's a healthier 9 Megs - i even added in
more brushes in the process, heh ;)

So not counting the aborted version ][ attempt, this map
took between 40-50 hours to complete - were I to build this
from scratch in one pass it's probably a 20 hour map..

 Known Bugs:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Sound could have been a lot better... maybe i'll get that right
next time...

yeah, there's some minor BSP bugs but these do not affect
gameplay so i'm not going to bother fixing them...

The bots are *NOT BAD* but not perfect either, so sometimes
they act quite odd in this map, and can get stuck in gaggles
when waiting for pickup to appear.

>>>>> Just set 'em on godlike and go grab the enemy flag!!!

Oh, yeah - one of the missle's has metallic textures on it
-- the textures showed up in screenshots but not too well in
game so i didn't bother doing the other 11 missiles (ok i
already said i'm lazy) just pretend you don't notice.... :D

 Other Levels By Author:
--------------------------------------------------------------

1. DM-FNB-RingOfStones (released January 2003)

This is a large ancient themed map, featuring an alien world temple,
some very strange and surreal scenes, caves, and includes the fantasy
artwork of Luis Royo, accenting the temple interiors. The map also
contains some ESR rifles (yes, i admit that's a mistake :) The
bot-pathing was re-done for me by Cobra (from the UnrealPlayground,
a bot-pathing expert) prior to final release because, well, because
my bots simply *sucked*. They can be pretty aggressive when set to
*Godlike*. For best results use OpenGL and tweak for high performance.
Part 1 of a four-map set (the other three are coming sometime... :o)

2. CTF-FNB-SpaceJunk (released August 2003)

Large LG space-station CTF, rather hard to describe - you really
have to see it up close :) Main features include long-range jump-pads
that launch you right across the map from base-to-base. WARNING --
you really need a good computer for this one... For best results use
D3D and set your GPU to high performance.

3. CTF-FNB-Rusty (released January 2004)

This is a half-sized version of the "CTF-6H-BigAndRusty" map I
designed for Jim "King Mango" Castille's un-official 6-hour mapping
competition at the Unreal Playground in September 2003. Some STILL call
this a large map, but i think it's really a medium, as UT CTF maps go :)
This is a rusty old processing facility of sorts, with high ramps and
filled with water -- end to end is pretty quick for the fleet player,
but lots of archy to complicate things for defenders, and the FC...

4. CTF-FNB-Rusty][ (released February 2004)
Second version of CTF-FNB-Rusty which incorporates changes recommended
by the CTF player community to improve on-line play. Main changes
include TOXIC water (no more FC swimming/hiding) and opening up the
base area under the big ramps - i also added in a developed middle
area and some hidden stuff ...

5. DM-FNB-BarrelOfFun (released March 2004)
Dumb name, fun map if you've got a better computer than me :P
Industrial type map which is a vertical drum that has a mechanical
thingy in the middle and is also filled with ramps and has four
elevations all the way up that are interconnected by warpzones
(so u and the bots can run around forever fragging away...)

6. Several WIP maps - Further info about FraGnBraG maps is available at
