Extended Description

--------------------

In the days of legend, an ancient people inhabited a lonely isle, dedicating their
lives to their forgotten god. Legend has it that in the height of their
civilization, they lost sight of their god's vision, and grew greedy and capricious.
In his wrath, their god drove them from atop his holy mountain, across the desolate
seas, to lands unknown to atone for their sins. Centuries later, followers of the
occult traveled to this lonely mountain-top, led on by their lust for the power
rumored to be locked away in the moldering halls of this once most vibrant of
places. Whether the survivers of the often violently competitive expeditions left
with great power, or merely the great wealth of that lost civilization is unknown.
What is known, however, is that Liandri happened to chance upon this out of the way
venue and decided to adopt it for their lucrative flag-based spectacles. When they
arrived, they found the fabled treasures and mystique had already been stripped by
prior visitors, though it is said that the skies still boil with the anger of a lost
god.

Author's Notes

--------------

This map was created for the first release of Dark Magic UT to include an official
map pack. The DMUT release will feature many changes aimed at providing an optimal
experiance. I strongly urge the few of you who actually read these readme's to head
on over to our site at http://www.planetunreal.com/ucz and download our latest
release, or keep up with its development until said release for those of you to look
at this before that time.

The flag-room was the concept by which the remainder of this map was made. I wanted
an impressive visual, as well as an immersive theme. To this end, I created my first
skybox with an actual horizon, rather than the traditional painted backdrop
(shudder) or ever-present mountain range. The result of having my flag-bases hanging
on the outer edge of a mountain was that the action then takes place in a caldera,
from which the map takes its name. The lighting that I wanted to use, as direct
sunlight takes more lights, which translates out into more work and lower fps (we
know which I was more concerned with ;)) demanded a cloud cover. At this point, I
began to think, "Hey, thunder would be cool." I must say, many thanks to Bot_40, for
all the help in teaching me how to do this, as well as to his custom scripting,
allowing me to have zone-wide sound effects. I hope you enjoy this map; I know I do.
